For the first time in history a delegation of Dutch media entrepreneurs attended the Digital Hollywood Conference. There are many conferences in Los Angeles. But Digital Hollywood is quite different and special. The four day program taking place in Marina del Rey contains panels and meet ups where the management of companies exchange experience, discuss case studies and of course network. About 2,500 people visit the conference and many are representatives from film, television and the marketing industry.
The conference has a large amount of panels that deal with diverse topics in the field of digital distribution, mobile, gaming, smart TV, over-the-top (OTT), digital marketing etc. The dominant theme of this year’s conference was particularly OTT due to the fact that HBO and CBS announced to go over-the-top to further unbundle distribution packages.
The participation of the Dutch delegation was partly made possible by iMMovator, Holland Hollywood Connection and the Consulate General of the Netherlands in San Francisco. Eight Dutch companies were present in Los Angeles for the Digital Hollywood. There were companies present such as Corrino Mediaand 24i that are already active in Los Angeles. But also companies taking their first step into the US market like Angry Bites attended the conference.
Two events during the Digital Conference were specially organized to show the potential of the Dutch media industry in Marina del Rey. To kick off the event, a small networking event was held on the Sunday before the actual conference. It was a great opportunity for the Dutch delegation and the local Dutch entrepreneurs in LA to meet and exchange experiences about doing business in the USA, specifically in LA.
Also Dutch companies presented themselves in a panel called ‘Dutch Digital Delight’. Companies present were MediaMonks, Corrino, Sticky Studios, 24iMedia and Angry Bytes. Central themes of the discussions were the propositions of the various companies and doing business in the USA. At the end of the session there was time to mingle and network with the panel.
Looking back at the conference, the Dutch companies were very satisfied with their participation. Not only the connections they made with potential business partners, but also it was much appreciated that the Dutch companies could share experiences with each other. The media industry in Los Angeles provides tremendous opportunities for Dutch entrepreneurs, especially when the companies know how to join forces.
