Dutch Film Night

During the American Film Market in Santa Monica, the Holland Hollywood Connection organizes an exclusive panel discussion and reception at Santa Monica Playhouse. A select panel of successful filmmakers will discuss their role in the globalization of Hollywood. What opportunities have they sought out to expand their professional borders? And why is the international playing field relevant to those embedded in the Hollywood System? We will close the evening with drinks and hors d’oeuvres.
Djoeke Adimi – Deputy Consul General of the Consulate General of he Netherlands will open the evening.
Our guests are:
Guirec van Slingelandt – CEO European Film Company.
Guirec made his first US feature by Co-Producing Kidnapping Mr. Heineken (starring Anthony Hopkins). Guirec is also CEO of Global Film Partners (Boychoir, Blunt Force Trauma) and partner of the Volterra Group, both based in Amsterdam. They have multiple exciting new international projects in development and production. Guirec will discuss how -in just a few years- he has managed to become a sought after co-producing partner by many producers around the world.
Howard Meltzer – Producer/Executive Producer
Emmy award winning producer Howard Meltzer has produced and directed countless commercials, movies and series for network and cable television over the past 40 years. He is the founder of TurtleBack Productions, Inc. His feature films include Kidnapping Mr. Heineken (starring Anthony Hopkins, Jim Sturgess), Erased, (starring Aaron Eckhart, Olga Kurylenko) and Tenderness (starring Russell Crowe, Laura Dern). Howard has a broad international focus, specializing in co-productions with Asia and Europe. He will share his secrets for working successfully worldwide.
Diederik van Rooijen – Writer and director for film and television.
Diederik is best known as the creator and director of the popular Dutch TV series Penoza, which has been remade for the US as ABC’s Red Widow. Diederik moved to LA last year when he got attached to direct the remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds.
Meanwhile he is involved in a number of American projects as a writer or director. Diederik will tell us how it all started and what brought him to LA.
Hany Abu-Assad – Director
Hany directed several films in The Netherlands, Palestine and the US. In 2006 his film Paradise Now was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and in 2014 his film Omar was also nominated in the category Best Foreign Language Film. His latest feature film (2015) is The Idol, a drama inspired by the incredible journey of the artist Mohammad Assaf, a singer from Gaza who won the Arab Idol show in 2013.
Mirjam Wertheim – Founder of Orange Entertainment
Mirjam founded Orange Entertainment in 1999. Orange Entertainment specializes in consulting foreign distributors in the acquisition of all media rights of feature films. Among her acquisitions are films like The Hunger Games, The Wolf of Wall Street, Still Alice and The Imitation Game.
Moderator of the evening is Marieke Oudejans, film/tv producer and journalist. Marieke is on the Advisory board of the Holland Hollywood Connection, which she co-founded with the Dutch Consulate. With her extensive professional experience in both Europe and the USA, she understands the dynamics of both “worlds” like no other, and will aim to unravel the mutual attraction.

The program will start at 6:30 pm and will take about an hour and fifteen minutes.
After the program there will be drinks and hors d’oeuvres in the characteristic outside patio of Santa Monica Playhouse.
